A PHOENIX'S NEW START (first break egg) AND TAKE ON LIFE AFTER TAKE OFF. It is a time when one’s spirit is subdued and sad, one knows not why; when the past seems a storm-swept desolation, life a vanity and a burden, and the future but a way to death. -Mark Twain

Have a very merry phallic Christmas

Taken at Highland & Hollywood yesterday. H & H is a reincarnation of DW Griffith's set for Intolerance.

This is what post-modernists would call hyper-reality,
or would demonstrate Hegel's Axiom of history repeating itself (but in this case three times ?) History always repeats itself on a higher plane?

I reject my hometown before xmas

Shwarzenegger in a pre-emptive mood said that he divorced his hometown of Gras and they could no longer use his name on the local stadium because the local officials had threatened to take his name off of it and replace it (Tookie Stadium anyone?) after he failed to pardon Tookie.

If this is not enough for a divorce, he is returning the ring of honour that the town of Gras awarded him.

King Kong and Primatologists

I have been reading Our Inner Ape by De Wall a primatologist. His thinking is that we have two inner apes a chimpanzee one and a bonobo one. Chimpanzees deal with power in their society through aggression much to the chagrin of Rouseau while bonobos deal with the power struggle through sex.
In King Kong, we see both of our primal behaviors that we have according to De Wall in full play. We have the ape's romance which exhibits bonobo's behavior ( essentially he is being so inclusive with power he is admitting a human into apedom through sex.
But at the sametime we see that he is aggressive to all other humans which is our inner chimpanzee.
There are two kinds of societal behaviors: one, HE (heirachy enforcive and two HA (heirachy attenuative)

And then there is Ms. Naomi MIlls- after all the purpose of this is to rediscover our inner ape but maybe she has gone to far

Take the test: are you a Pantagruelist?

"Pantagruel" 1533: The story of Pantagruel, the giant, son of Gargentua, their feats, their wars and adventures. The framework of a mock-heroic chivalrous romance, he laughed at many types of sophistry including the legal obsurantism and hermeticism, which he nevertheless preferred to the scholasticism of the Sorbonne. In one chapter, he praises the divine gift of fertile matrimony as compensation for death caused by Adam's fall.

If they can send men to the moon why can't they give rats brains?

We are now able to give rats brains.....

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12 (Xinhuanet)-- Human embryonic stem cells injected into the brains of fetal mice can develop into functioning adult brain cells, a US research team reported on Monday.

This finding not only marks a breakthrough in embryonic stem cell research, but also provides a much needed animal model for studying human brain development and disease, such as the Parkinson's and the Alzheimer's, said the researchers led by Fred Gage at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies, California.

The team reported its achievement in the latest issue of the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences.

Literacy

Tommorow I start my training to be a volunteer literacy tutor.
Each one teach one is a Laubach's mission statement for literacy this is the methodology I learned last Saturday. Laubach was a missionary to the Philipines who discovered that the problem with converting people was they had no written language. He invented a written language for them and a method to teach it to them.

Johnny Cash - 7 degrees of Joaquin Phoenix

Are Johnny Cash and Phoenix similar because of a cleft palate?

Answer:

According to the Cleft Palate Foundation, "a cleft lip is a separation of the two sides of the lip. The separation often includes the bones of the upper jaw and/or upper gum. A cleft palate is an opening in the roof of the mouth in which the two sides of the palate did not fuse, or join together, as the unborn baby was developing."

Phoenix claims it's a birthmark.
Phoenix has found himself reluctantly discussing his brother's death again as people ask how that tragedy affected his approach to playing Cash, whose older brother, Jack, died in an accident when they were children.

"The development of a character is not something that I've ever kind of drawn from my own pool of experience," Phoenix said. "I think it probably works for some people. I've seen directors talk to other actors about using personal experiences. Any time that's tried with me, it falls apart. It never works, because I feel like I use different parts of my brain to come up with something and to develop a character. I feel, if anything, a personal experience gets in the way.

Additionally, (CNN) -- "If you've never thrown a Frisbee before and you suddenly throw one, everything about the entire movement doesn't make sense. It just feels incredibly awkward and it's very humbling."
OK, Joaquin Phoenix admits the analogy isn't perfect.
But then, for the actor, learning to sing like Johnny Cash was anything but a perfect experience.
