The Only Sure Thing is Uncertainty

The news in subatomic research from CERN this weekend, was particles that travel faster than light. In an over three year project, particles traveling through the earth from Switzerland to Italy were measured by a 1,300 ton particle detector and determined to have reached speeds exceeding that of light.
Light was determined by Einstein in his theory of special relativity to be an absolute or universal constant. Many believe this to be an error by the scientists at the lab in Italy because if they are correct it means that Einstein was wrong and that the science fiction writers claims that if the speed of light could be broken that time travel woud be possible.

Oxytocin the Love Hormone and Genes
Obviously genes are responsible for psychological make up but new research suggests that they are also responsible for emotional make up. In new research at UCLA they have found a gene connected with the production of the hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin like cortisol increases with stress. It is responsible for feeling connected with others, self-mastery, and empathy some have called it the caretaker hormone because it makes one concerned about the well being of others.
Some people because of their genes are predisposed to having more oxytocin because of the gene variant that they carry. Some people have the A variant gene (adenine) and some people have the G variant (guanine). Those of us who have the G variant are more susceptible to stress and isolation.

This is hit or miss but interesting just the same. It is hit or miss because the genes expression is not stable. in the case of physical characteristics it is relatively easy because your eye color is not going to change where as your moods certainly do.

An Inconclusive History of Multiuse Names
Image via Wikimedia CommonsA multiuse name is an uniform umbrella name for each collaborator in an organization.
Ned Ludd appears to be the first use of a multiuse name. This is unrecognized at present since Luddite now is simply an eponymous way of saying opposed to technology (or in this pervasive technological age a late adapter). During Ned Ludd's lifetime and shortly thereafter the proletariat that emulated his example by smashing the frames of knitting machines referred to themselves as Luddites and their founder or leader as King Ludd or Captain Ludd. It is uncertain if Ludd smashed his first weaving frame in 1779 or when the Luddites actually formed in the 1810s. When knitting machines were found smashed it was said that Ned Ludd did it.

What lip-readers say:
"It is absolutely not true. I did not call him a terrorist. I don't even know what the word means," he told the Italian news agency Ansa, which quoted him as saying that "the whole world saw what happened on live TV."
